SAM Lab User Agreement | Fall 2019

The Statistics and Methods (SAM) Lab provides assistance to students enrolled in programs and courses offered through the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences that have an associated student fee. Its primary objectives are to help students strengthen their understanding of statistics and research methods concepts and gain familiarity with the tools and resources needed to perform social science research.

The SAM Lab assists students by:
  • Answering conceptual questions.
  • Providing explanations.
  • Connecting students with relevant resources.
  • Providing hands-on training with statistics and research software.

  • The SAM Lab can NOT:
  • Provide students with the answers to any class assignments.
  • Provide step-by-step instructions for answering each question on a class assignment.
  • Review students’ completed assignments or provide grading feedback of any sort.

  • That is, SAM Lab consultants can answer questions about the topics, concepts, or procedures covered in a class assignment, but they can not walk students through the class assignment, itself. SAM Lab assistance is not a substitute for regular class attendance or active engagement in online courses. It is students’ responsibility to attend class, obtain all course materials, complete all learning modules/lectures in online courses, and communicate directly with course instructors in the event of an absence.

Should the SAM Lab feel that instructor assistance/intervention is needed, due to the extent or nature of the support that a student requires, it will: (1) recommend that students communicate directly with their course instructor, and/or (2) recommend alternative or additional resources that may be more appropriate (e.g., ASU Writing Center, Psychology Online Writing Center, University Technology Office Online Help Desk, ASU Counseling Services).
